Organizing for Cheap

I am a fairly organized person. I like to live in a clean space and I think that organization is positively correlated with success! I am always looking for "economically friendly" ways to stay organized without breaking the bank!

Yesterday, I went to Ross with my best friend Hannah and look what I stumbled upon!! A paper organizer!! Before I just stored all of my important papers in a pile on my desk *yuck* It wasn't organized and wasn't pretty... but yesterday I stumbled upon this organizer that 1) matches my room perfectly 2) can hold all of my papers and pens and 3) was only $4.99!!

Can you say jackpot?

Can you say love?

It fits perfectly on my desk and doesn't take up much space!! I am so glad I stumbled upon it!

On an unrelated note... I found this super cool way to keep my calendar nice and organized and also out of the way!

Steps:
1) I bought a plastic holder for the calendar from Staples
2) Printed out free calendar templates from the computer
3) Added a velcro command strip to the back

and now I have a calendar that can hang on the wall but is easy to remove!

How do you like to organize?

Donuts and Gifts

A couple of weeks ago it was one of my close friend Hannah's birthday! We celebrated with a hike to Indian Lookout and dining on Funfetti Cake!! After the hike she came to my room and I gave her, her present!!

I bought her chocolate and donuts! I also made her a purple coaster for her room!

This was the sign I put on her donut holes!!

This is a great way to spice up little gifts! I think it is important to make presents even if they are little special so I thought this was a nice touch!! I love giving gifts and I'm glad she loved these!

Pied, Shopped, and Programed Out

If you saw my last post you would have heard about all of my upcoming fun weekend plans! It was for sure an RA type of weekend and it was soo awesome!

To start it off I got pied in the face for Rho Alpha Sigma's 'Pie Your RA'! I got three pies to the face and I am glad I participated in a great cause!!

Notice my left ear was COMPLETELY filled with whip-cream! Gross!! And thank goodness for the trash bag-poncho I was styling otherwise my clothes would have been soaked with whip-cream!

After, I scrubbed away all the whip-cream I went to my friend RJ's apartment to bake tons of cookies and brownies for the Let's Get Baked Program on Saturday night! RJ's kitchen and oven are pretty tiny so it took us about 4 hours to bake all the cookies and brownies... We didn't count how many total we made but I want to say we made at least 200 cookies and three batches of brownies! We ordered a pizza and watched some TV and it was just a great night! Some other RA's also joined us on our baking adventure and helped us clean up (by licking the bowls) so it was truly an RA Party!! I don't get to hang out with the Apartment RA's often so it was a great change of pace!!

On Saturday, I went shopping with a friend for my program and found a bunch of cute things! I am super excited for my residents to decorate their picture frames! I also bought two pairs of jeans (wearing a pair as we speak)! It was a successful shopping trip!!

After, shopping I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening with one of my Pro-Staff member, Jen's baby! Jen and her husband are in the process of moving and it was awesome spending time with the little one!! The baby is about 3 months and is SO cute!! Jen made this excellent home-cooked meal for me too so it was nice to not eat Patriot (cafeteria) food for a night!! I got to hold an adorable baby and eat great food, what more could I have asked for!

Following the awesome day of babysitting I went to the Let's Get Baked Program where we had an excellent turn out! I'm glad we got to educate the Terrace community on drugs and alcohol!

It was a great RA Weekend! And I am so thankful for being apart of such an awesome community! But, now I get to spend my Sunday reading for classes and prepping for yet another crazy week of school!

Countdown till Fall Break and I get to see Chad: 13 Days :)

This Weekends Plans...

Hello All! I hope everyone has had a fabulous hump day! My day has been pretty good! I only had one exam today and I managed to score an hour and a half in the gym so I am feeling pretty good about that! What I am more excited for however is my weekend...

I do not get to see Chad :(! Unfortunately I have a little under three weeks till that happens which kills because it has already been two weeks! I really miss him, but I am looking forward to seeing him at his brother's engagement party in a couple weeks and then I'm going to visit him at Salisbury and check out where he lives and go site seeing and all sort of fun stuff like that!

Anyways, my weekend plans--It is full of RA Fun!!

Friday Night:
I volunteered to get PIED IN THE FACE!! This is a program that Rho Alpha Sigma (RA Honors Society) is sponsoring to raise money for their funding! They needed some RA's to volunteer their faces to get pied for $1 a pie! I told all my residents to come on down and I think it will be fun, even though I am positive I will be extremely messy by the end of it!

After getting pied in the face... I then get to make cookies and brownies for the program Terrace Staff is throwing on Saturday! I haven't baked in a couple weeks so I am super excited to bake and maybe snag a bite or two of cookie dough!? I get to bake with a couple other close RA friends so it will be such a fun night getting to learn more about them!

Saturday:
During the day I am leaving campus to get supplies for my program on Tuesday night! Its called Picture Perfect! My residents and I will be discussing the pressures the media puts on young women to be "picture perfect" and what we can do to not let that pressure us into the mold society has for us. We also will be decorating picture frames for our dorm rooms so thats why I need to get supplies so we can decorate some great picture frames! I am super excited for this program and I think it will run very efficiently!

I am also buying JEANS on Saturday afternoon! I put this off last Fall/Winter because I didn't feel like buying new things but now it is a must! My favorite pair is about to get a embarrassing hole in the crotch so unless I want the entire Mount community to be staring at my underwear, I need to get new jeans ASAP! I think I'll probably by 3 pairs in different colors and that will suffice my jean-need!

Saturday evening is the Let's Get Baked Program-- my boyfriend snickered at the title when I told him about it... and yes, it is about drug and alcohol education! As I said previously we are making cookies and brownies and then attaching drug/alcohol facts to their packages. If the student wants a bag of baked goods and a chance to enter into a raffle to win a gift-card... then they must attend, read their fact, write their name down, and put it into the jar for the raffle! I am thinking this program will be really successful and I can't wait to see what my residents have to say! We are baking over 150 baked goods so we are preparing for a large crowd!!

Sunday: Is a day for homework and studying, blah blah blah... so nothing to adventurous unfortunately.

I am so looking forward to my RA kind of weekend! Wish I was seeing Chad, but no worries that will come up before I know it!! What are your plans for this weekend? Anything fun?

September's Bulletins

Every month, I have to update one bulletin board and my door decorations so this month's theme is: Disney!

Disney brings on great nostalgia so I thought the girls would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about the Disney Princesses they grew up with! And boy was I right! I have gotten so much positive feedback that I am tempted to leave this one up and change another one next month! We'll see if the board can survive for that long... (Residents like to vandalize bulletin boards)

So what did I do... Well if you recall from last months Twitter board the back ground was blue. Well to save paper I decided to recycle the background and basically flip it around. The lights on my hall stain the blue background paper a different color so I couldn't just take the twitter board letters off I actually had to flip the background paper around which was a pain in the butt.

I then added the Disney Princess timeline... starting with Snow White and continuing. Then I drew the black arrows and wrote the title of the board. I am thrilled that the Disney font came out like I was expecting!

Over on the other end there is a section that instructs my residents to write on their favorite Disney Princess' slide. That way all my residents can know who has the same common interests! Also, by making this bulletin board interactive it becomes a Passive Program and I can get programming points!

The door decorations... I used all 11 of the Disney Princesses and each resident got their own princess!

Although, we only have to update one bulletin board a month... I like new things to spice up my hall so I put up my first hall program's work of art! All my residents came together and put their handprints on this bulletin board paper... I thought it was a cool way to unite the floor and the quote I found was really beautiful too.

"Sometimes reaching out and taking someone's
hand is the beginning of a journey. At
other times it is allowing another to
take yours"

I am really happy about how these two bulletin boards came out! Next month I will be updating all 5 of the boards. One is definitely going to be Halloween or Fall related!

Hope you all have a fabulous Thursday! Remember, only one more day till the weekend is finally here!
